Our trip to Italy...
|
Ok, we left on Friday, first gig Friday night. When we arrived, we found that Melvin's Pedal Steel, Dave Levy's bass, all our guitar effects and tuners and Jamie's stage clothes and hat were still at Gatwick Airport. Doh! We did the first show with no pedal steel (Melvin played an acoustic slide guitar on his lap), a hired bass and no way of tuning the instruments. And getting mild electric shocks off the microphones!
Second show, British Airways failed to get the instruments to us, so the same problems arose, and when we arrived there was a massive poster saying it was a Paul Young show. Doh! So we said we would refuse to go on, as we stipulate in our contract. After much arguments, and at one point the Mayor of the town came to ask us to appear, we then agreed and did the show. When we got to the hotel, the instruments had arrived. Hurrah!
Next day, just before we arrived at the last town, I was stung in the face by a wasp. Doh! Now, I have a bad allergy to wasp stings, so when my face swelled up and my eye closed completely, I was taken to hospital and put on a drip for an hour and a half. I eventually did the show in sunglasses, and couldn't see Jamie or Matt on my left side for the whole night!
Next day, it was a mad rush to get back to see my son who was also in hospital, having his tonsils out. Thankfully, he is recovering well and was able to leave hospital a day early. Hooray! |
